Man dies in A90 crash

A 78-year-old man has died following a two-vehicle crash on a north-east road.

The incident involved a car and a van on the A90 Aberdeen to Dundee road near Laurencekirk, at the junction with Marykirk.

Emergency services were called to the scene of the collision at 9.30pm yesterday.

The road was closed for around nine hours while an investigation took place.

Police said two people were involved in the crash – the drivers of both vehicles.

A 78-year-old man who was driving a Dacia Duster was pronounced dead at the scene and a 19-year-old man who was driving a Ford Connect van was uninjured.

Road Policing Sergeant Colin Matheson said: “Our thoughts at this sad time are with the family and friends of the man who died.

“In order to help piece together what happened, I would urge anyone who may have seen either vehicle prior to the collision, or who saw the incident itself and who hasn’t yet come forward, to contact us by calling 101 as soon as possible”
