An agreement has now been reached to include a Travellers site in plans to create a business park and hotel in a North-east town.
Property agents Knight Frank has tabled plans on behalf of Susan Davidson to develop 18 commercial units and a hotel at Balmacassie in Ellon.
The site has been earmarked for land to the north of the A948 Ellon to Auchnagatt road.
But the scheme hit a stumbling block because it did not comply with the local development plan as no space had been allocated for a Traveller stopover site.
As a result, the local authority’s Formartine area committee recommended the plans be refused last year.
And a decision was due to be made at a meeting involving all Aberdeenshire councillors.
But further discussions have taken place and an agreement has now been reached to include a Travellers site within the Balmacassie area plans.
Officers have asked Formartine councillors to now back the plans and provide their views to the full council.
The proposed Travellers site would be run by the council.
In a report to be heard by Formartine councillors on Tuesday, Stephen Archer, director of infrastructure services at the local authority, said: “Since the Formartine area committee meeting on June 28, 2016, extensive negotiations between the planning service and the developer have taken place to forge a way to progress the application with a favourable recommendation.
“The developer has since confirmed agreement to provide an area of land to be developed as a Traveller transit site within the application boundary.
“The Traveller transit site will be applied for under a separate application and developed by the council.”
It adds: “Neither the council’s roads development or transportation colleagues raise any objections to the proposal, nor does Transport Scotland.”
