The depths of winter may be upon us, but organisers of one of Scotland’s largest beer festivals are already setting their sights on summer.
Dates for the Midsummer Beer Happening in Stonehaven were announced today – the shortest day of the year. Thousands of beer buffs are expected to flock to the coastal town from Thursday, June 28, to Saturday, June 30.
Organiser Robert Lindsay said: “As December 21 is the winter solstice, we thought people would like to be reminded of warm summer sunshine and cold beers by announcing dates for the fourth Midsummer Beer Happening. “We have been working hard in the past few months to line up a great selection of beers from right across the United Kingdom as well as Belgium.”
Last year the Happening attracted a record-breaking 5,300 visitors to its purpose-built marquee in Baird Park.
The Happening is a non-profit event, run by volunteers, and last year managed to raise £27,500 for good causes based in and around Stonehaven.
Also returning next June will be the Happening’s Sportive, which has become a huge draw for cyclists from around the country, offering challenging courses across the hills and dales of the Mearns, ranging from 52 to 100 miles.
