A man caught with a knife told police he used it to make matchstick models.

Kevin McBride, 40, was found with the blade on Frithside in Fraserburgh.

Fiscal depute Katy Begg said the incident happened at round 2.50pm on May 25 when police on patrol spotted McBride in the street “constantly looking around himself”.

Police were also “aware of intelligence pertaining to the accused”.

The officers approached McBride and he appeared “nervous and agitated”.

A lock knife was found in his trouser pocket.

The knife was checked by officers who confirmed it had the locking capability and McBride was taken to Fraserburgh police station.

McBride, of West Park, St Combs, pled guilty to possession of a lock knife.

Defence agent Jennifer Pritchard said: “He fully accepts he was in possession of this item.

“He tells me it is what he calls a craft knife from the pound shop. He makes matchstick models.

“He completely forgot it was in his pocket.”

She added: “He is an individual who has difficulties in relation to drug misuse.”

Sheriff Jack Brown said: “I see very little option other than sending you to custody. This is the third time you’ve committed an offence of this nature.”

He deferred sentence until next month for reports.
