A man has appeared in court charged with raping a woman in her 20s in Aberdeen city centre.

Callum Duncan, 21, appeared in private at Aberdeen Sheriff Court yesterday facing a single charge over the alleged incident.

Officers were called to a property in the Raeburn Place area in the early hours of Saturday.

Duncan, whose general address was given as Aberdeen, made no plea during the behind-closed-doors hearing.

The 21-year-old was released on bail while the case against him was committed for further examination.

It is alleged the incident happened between 3.15am and 4.15am.

Police at the scene were assisted by forensics officers dressed in white overalls.
Later on Saturday officers could be seen making door-to-door inquiries.

Two police cars were parked on the street for much of the day, with officers and a forensics team coming and going from the vehicles while gathering information.

Detective Inspector Allen Shaw, who is among the officers investigating the alleged incident, thanked members of their community for supporting police with their inquiries.

He urged anyone who knows anything who could help with the investigation to get in touch.

Anyone with information can contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting reference number 0860 of March 30, or to remain anonymous, call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
