Court hears murder accused was at Brian McKandie’s house day before he died

A murder accused was at the home of Brian McKandie the day before he died, a court has heard.

Steven Sidebottom, 24, is on trial at the High Court in Aberdeen accused of murdering 67-year-old Brian McKandie at his home near Rothienorman on March 11, 2016, and robbing him of a sum of money.

He denies the charge and previously entered a special defence of alibi.

This morning evidence was given by Jill Auchnie, who visited Mr McKandie on Thursday, March 10, 2016, to collect a vehicle he had been working on for her.

She told the court she saw Sidebottom outside Mr McKandie’s home and that he was still there when she left.

The trial continues.
