A couple and their dog have been found after a search and rescue mission in the Cairngorms.

The man and woman, aged 59 and 56, were reported missing on New Year’s Day after failing to return from a walk as expected in the evening.

Police Scotland said they had been staying in the Glenmore area and set off at around 10am with their black Collie dog.

The Cairngorm Mountain Rescue Team searched the Cairngorm Plateau overnight in freezing temperatures and deep snow.

This morning a search and rescue helicopter and RAF Search and Rescue Team were out looking for the pair.

They were found with their dog at around 12pm and walked to safety.

Both were said to be safe and well.
