A Councillor is appealing to have a climbing wall built at a North-east academy.
Cllr George Carr has written to officers at Aberdeenshire Council asking for a climbing wall be built at Mearns Academy Community Campus in Laurencekirk.
He said it had always been a part of the community’s vision for the academy and would be the ideal location for the facility.
The Conservative added that there was a lack of sports facilities in Laurencekirk since the closure of the Newlife Fitness Club last year.
He said: “A climbing wall was always part of the equipment envisaged to be installed at the new community campus.
“However, competing demands on resources, primarily new IT equipment, meant the climbing wall was shelved.”
John Harding, the council’s head of lifelong learning and leisure, said the authority had “no plans” at present to install a wall.
He said: “The council is always willing to support community initiatives but recognises the difficult financial context in which to consider not only the capital costs but the ongoing revenue costs.”
