Job creation and a boost for the North-east economy is the goal for the company chosen to build the new AECC.
Robertson Group has been announced as the contractor in charge of delivering the multi-million pound AECC (Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre).
It will be the biggest project the North-east company, appointed by Henry Boot Developments, will have undertaken in its 50-year history.
Chief operations officer Derek Shewan said: “We’re absolutely delighted, it’s a milestone project in our 50th year. It’s a tremendous opportunity for us to leave a landmark on the North-east.
“We have very much got a focus on the North-east and we mean to ensure that the economy of the North-east gets the benefit of major construction work.
“There’s an opportunity for both employment and supply chain to get involved. If you can retain that ability to create more opportunities then I think that will have been one of the reasons we were selected.”
A total of 600 jobs will be created during construction until completion in 2019.
Derek added that the project will start coming to shape in just over a year.
The new centre will have a maximum capacity of 12,500 – four times that of the current AECC.
