Police fear unclear signage on an Aberdeen road has caused so much confusion that an accident is inevitable.
Officers at Tillydrone station have been inundated with complaints about drivers proceeding straight on along a new “left turn only” stretch of St Machar Drive.
But they believe the fault lies with the local authority, saying motorists are not given sufficient warning about the change in the road layout before it is too late to change lanes.
Officers have appealed for Aberdeen City Council to rectify the problem.
PC Edward Allan said: “Something needs to be done or there will be an accident.
“Buses and lorries are using that left lane, but are not turning left and proceeding down St Machar Drive.
“We think the council should have ‘left turn only’ written across the road, something needs to be done.”
The trial changes have been made to establish if traffic flow towards the Diamond Bridge can be improved .
A council spokeswoman confirmed it will install additional road markings to advise motorists about the changes.
