An Olympic champion is being honoured with a shining legacy.
Lossiemouth residents welcomed rowing star Heather Stanning back from the Rio Games to her hometown last year by bathing 19th century Covesea lighthouse in gold. The tribute proved so popular it has now been decided to light the beacon permanently.
The Covesea Lighthouse Community Company Ltd secured almost £5,000 from Moray Council to cover extra lights, equipment and installation costs.
Since Christmas, the structure has been aglow with alternating colours from 5pm onwards every night.
Moray College engineering lecturer Graham Kilpatrick is a director of the Covesea group and has helmed the project alongside electrician Derek White.
Lossiemouth Community Council chairman Mike Mulholland is hoping to stage a public celebration once all the lights are in place.
