Shoppers in search of their caffeine fix will now be able to help the parents of sick youngsters from as far away as Orkney and Shetland, thanks to a new pilot initiative by a North-east children’s charity.
The ARCHIE Foundation has put in place what is believed to be Aberdeen’s first contactless donation tin at the Starbucks outlet in Union Square.
Customers can quickly tap their debit cards to donate a free coffee or cup of tea to a mum or dad in need of liquid sustenance at the Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital (RACH).
Whenever children need to be rushed to RACH in an emergency from Orkney or Shetland, many parents have little time to gather essentials, and can find themselves stranded at Foresterhill in Aberdeen with their sickly youngsters.
However, thanks to The ARCHIE Foundation, any families who need to sleep close to their little ones now have the opportunity to stay for free in the parents’ accommodation at the hospital, which has been funded by the charity.
