AN ABERDEEN cathedral has got in the Christmas spirit by hosting a televised festive concert.
St Machar’s Cathedral hosted the annual BBC One Christmas Celebration programme.
The show, which will air at 11.45pm on Christmas Eve, involves carols being sung by a congregation made up of staff of the University of Aberdeen, students, former students of the university and friends and families of St Machar’s Cathedral.
There will be solo songs by Scottish singer Barbara Dickson, folk singer Emily Smith and her band, and two songs sung by Aberdeen University Chamber Choir in the cathedral
Presented by Sally Magnusson, the programme features Christmas readings delivered by people from across the country.
The readings at the service will be partly biblical and partly reflective of the current situation in the world.
A spokeswoman from the University of Aberdeen said: “We are delighted to have this opportunity to showcase the wonderful St Machar’s Cathedral and Old Aberdeen, and the strength of musical tradition and talent at the University.”
