A charity ball to help newborn babies in the north-east has raked in £10,000 – double what organisers expected.
Cash from the Night for our Stars ball, which was held at the Buchan Braes hotel in Peterhead, will go to Peterhead Maternity Ward and Friends of the Neo-natal Unit in Aberdeen.
Around 120 people attended the night, with sponsored tables and raffles raising the bulk of the cash.
Carla Lawrence, one of the organisers, hoped that the event would raise around £5,000, but had never imagined it would make so much.
She said: “I really hoped we could get £5,000 but I wasn’t saying that out loud.
“It was the end of nine months of work that Stephanie, the other organiser, and I had put in. It was overwhelming when we finally worked out how much we had raised.”
Carla said guests have already been asking about next year’s event, which she is keen to start work on soon.
