A developer of an old north-east care home that was devastated by a blaze have said the cause of the fire is still not clear.
Bill Beattie, who purchased the former Blythewood House care home in Port Elphinstone, Inverurie, from Aberdeenshire Council in 2016, said it remained unclear what caused the fire on Sunday to break out.
Mr Beattie announced his intention to convert the site into flats late last year.
He said: “I don’t have any information at this stage as the building is still under the control of the fire service.
“The damage is something we can deal with, although I don’t know the full extent of it as I’ve not been able to get onto the site.
“There are various options for the site and it’s currently going through the council’s planning process.”
More than 70 firefighters tackled the blaze at Blythewood House on Sunday in an attempt to salvage the property, which had lain empty for 18 months.
The residents of the former care home have since been moved to the £10 million Bennachie View facility.
