Ann Ross said winning the title was ‘incredible’.

As Valentine’s Day nears, couples everywhere are preparing to proclaim their love – and one pair in particular have plenty to celebrate.

Ann Ross was glowing with happiness as she was awarded the Evening Express’ Bride of the Year 2016 title.

Surrounded by her flowers, trophy and other prizes, and with her husband Les Oliver at her side, Ann expressed her delight at winning the award.

She said: “It’s not often I’m left speechless – it’s just incredible. I can’t believe it.

“I never ever thought I would win. Thank you so much to everyone who voted for us.”

Ann, 58, and Les, 61, met four years ago at the gym and have been inseparable ever since.

The couple married last April at Raemoir House Hotel – the venue where Les proposed on his 60th birthday.

Les, an engineer, said: “No one knew. I just walked over to her and got down on one knee and came straight out with it. She looked at me and instantly said ‘yes’.”

Ann, a housewife, added: “There was only one place that we could get married and that was Raemoir House. It has a really special place in our hearts.”

Ann said that the wedding day was “amazing” and filled with their closest friends and family, including her sons Ryan, 27, and Owen, 25, and Les’ daughter Kimberley, 29.

Since the wedding, the couple have been kept busy with their two Labradors, Robbie and Rhys, and their cat Pippin.

Ann said: “It’s been an amazing year. We’ve been very busy with our two very bouncy dogs and we’ve just been enjoying ourselves.

“We’ve got a very happy life together and we’re so lucky to have met each other.”

In addition to her flowers and trophy, Ann has won champagne and chocolates, a £150 voucher for the Chester Hotel and a stunning pair of diamond earrings worth £895 from Rox.
