Bomb disposal crews have been called after an object was discovered at the mouth of an Aberdeen river.

Police Scotland and coastguard teams are also in attendance at the mouth of the River Don.

Emergency services were alerted by a member of the public shortly after 1pm today.

A police spokesman said: “We received a call from the member of the public saying they had found an object washed up on the beach near the mouth of the River Don.

“Explosive Ordnance Device teams have been called as a precaution.”

A coastguard spokesman added: “We are assisting Police Scotland after an object was discovered.

“A cordon has been set up in order to protect the public.”
