The world’s biggest Burns Supper is poised to be held in Aberdeen.
Granite PR is hosting the event to celebrate its 10th anniversary and raise money for charity.
Founder and managing director Brett Jackson wanted to hold the double celebration as he is inspired by a Robert Burns quote: “Dare to be honest and fear no labour.”
Brett said: “It’s our 10th anniversary, that’s the key driver of this. I have always been passionate about Burns.
“As an entrepreneur and businessman and passionate Aberdonian, I’m always quite passionate about Burns and celebrating it.
“I wanted to show it’s still as relevant as ever in a cultural and business sense.
“Being honest with clients and businesses and contacts and working hard is what we do every day.
“So what he said is still relevant to today’s culture and business.”
And Brett is hoping the inaugural event on January 25 can be the biggest Burns Supper around.
He said: “We’re attempting to host Aberdeen’s, Scotland’s and the world’s biggest Burns Supper. Even if it’s just the biggest Aberdeen’s ever had, the number one thing it would mean to me is about pride in Aberdeen.
“Aberdeen’s been through a tough old time over the last few years, and one of the reasons I wanted to do this is to show what Aberdeen is still able to do.”
Around 500 people have already booked a spot.
The largest Burns supper ever was held in Glasgow in 2015, with 645 guests.
Brett said: “All are welcome. It’s not just businesses.”
The Granite Burns Supper will feature a three-course meal, indoor Scottish market, music and dancing.
Starting at 6.30pm, the event at the city’s DoubleTree by Hilton Aberdeen Treetops will raise money for charity through an auction and raffle. Cash raised will go to Flying Start, the global charity partnership between British Airways and Comic Relief.
