Westhill-based Bibby Offshore has announced that it will be the first to deploy a new diving safety system within the North Sea.
The new Compact Bailout Rebreathing Apparatus (COBRA) was designed to provide subsea oil and gas divers with an additional tier of safety in an emergency situation.
Bibby said that the new diving safety system, developed by JFD, had already been put through its paces during a recent contract with BP North Sea.
Alan Nairn, director of diving at Bibby Offshore, said: “It’s a big step forward in diver safety. JFD have been working on the development of this for a number of years. We had something similar before but you couldn’t test it, now divers can test it.”
