A banned driver has admitted breaking his disqualification – so he could go shopping.
Michael Crighton, 51, appeared at Aberdeen Sheriff Court and admitted driving while disqualified and without insurance on August 13 on the A96 Aberdeen to Inverness road near Thainstone Agricultural Centre.
The court heard Crighton was stopped at 11.45am and checks revealed he was disqualified.
Defence agent Jennifer Pritchard said her client was in the process of divorce proceedings with his wife. She said: “He tells me he fully accepts that his driving the vehicle that day was stupidity and he apologises to the court.”
She added that he suffers quite “severely” from sciatica.
She said that on the day in question he had gone to buy items from Thainstone, saying: “He can not do his own grocery shopping but, due to the relationship with his wife, there is no one else to do it.”
Crighton, of Corrennie Circle, Dyce, Aberdeen, will be sentenced next month.
