Police are appealing for witnesses after an elderly woman was left with serious injuries following a two-vehicle crash on a busy north-east road.
Emergency services were called to the scene at the Cortes junction of the A952 and A90 near Lonmay at 9.20am yesterday.
The incident involved a grey Citroen C1 and silver Rover 75 estate.
A 77-year-old woman who was driving the Citroen suffered serious injuries.
She was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary by ambulance and remains in a stable condition according to Police Scotland.
A police spokeswoman said: “The driver of the Rover 75 was uninjured.
“Anyone who witnessed the collision or who saw either car beforehand is urged to contact Police Scotland on 101.”
Scottish Fire and Rescue Services were also called to the junction to help get the elderly woman out of the vehicle.
The A90 was closed northbound at the junction for two hours while police dealt with the incident.
