Proposal to stub out smoking around North-east playparks

A move has been sparked to make Angus playparks smoke-free zones.

Council officials have been asked to look at bringing in controls which would outlaw smoking around play areas.

Campaigners say it would stop parents and carers puffing away while they watch children play, and hopefully deter youngsters from taking up the habit.

A new £90,000 playpark at Brechin community campus could become the first site to come under the new rules, with hopes the ban will be extended Angus wide.

Kirriemuir SNP councillor Julie Bell, who brought the idea forward, said: “This is a great opportunity for Angus to protect our children from harmful smoke and perhaps stop them from taking up smoking”.
