ALEX Salmond hopes to pull off an oil and gas deal for the North-east this year in his new role as SNP foreign affairs spokesman.
The Gordon MP has announced his new team of opposition members working on international relations, including West Aberdeenshire and Kincardine MP Stuart Donaldson.
Mr Salmond hopes one of his first acts of this parliamentary term will be an investment boost for the North-east oil and gas industry.
He said: “We’re working very hard on some exciting prospects on the subcontinent on investment in oil and gas companies.
“Hopefully before the end of the year these efforts will bear fruit because there are exciting opportunities.”
He added: “This will be a very big investment if it comes off.”
Mr Donaldson, one of the youngest members of the House at 23, has been given the role of assistant spokesman on foreign affairs.
Mr Salmond said he was confident in Mr Donaldson’s abilities as he has worked with him before.
