A LEGENDARY football player is set to arrive in the North-east next week to mark the opening of a new gym.
Alan Shearer will be in Laurencekirk next Wednesday to open the Speedflex Aberdeen Ltd gym.
The former Newcastle United striker and England player is an ambassador of Speedflex Europe.
Speedflex offers sessions to small groups of people who train together with an experienced personal trainer.
The company has bought a 30% share in the Laurencekirk-based Newlife Fitness Club.
Gary Fairweather, who opened the gym in 2012 with his partner Sally, said: “We are the first Speedflex Gym in Scotland and, as part of this, Alan Shearer is coming to sunny Laurencekirk to officially open Speedflex Aberdeen Ltd.
“We were approached by Speedflex last October and I have to be honest I had never heard of it, but as soon as I Googled it and people like Alan Shearer show up on their website you know this company means business.”
Shearer scored 206 goals in 404 appearances for his boyhood club Newcastle United, after joining for a then world record £15 million fee in 1996. He will be in Laurencekirk along with Speedflex owner Graham Wylie to open the facility.
