A science and technology festival which has inspired hundreds of thousands of youngsters for 25 years is poised to return to Aberdeen.
TechFest aims to promote science, technology, engineering and maths (Stem) subjects.
Along with interactive workshops, shows and presentations, people will get a chance to hear from former Olympic curler Jackie Lockhart.
She will share stories from her career alongside manager of Curl Aberdeen and fellow champion curler Tom Brewster, who will provide technical insight into how the maintenance of ice can affect the outcome of a match.
As part of its milestone year, in addition to a range of science topics on offer, there will also be a variety of events exploring the history and uses of silver.
National Museums Scotland will also present key objects from its touring exhibition, with Behind The Scenes of Scotland’s Early Silver: From Conservation to Display on September 12.
Sarah Chew, managing director of TechFest, said: “This is a really exciting year for TechFest as we celebrate 25 years of the festival and we are pleased to unveil such a diverse and fun-filled programme for our anniversary.
“Over the years you can imagine how the event has changed.
“If you look at the programme in 2001, we were following the possibility of water on Mars pretty closely.
“And in that area, there has been massive discoveries and now we see in 2018 that life on Mars is much closer than we realised at the time.
“There’s the story of a woman who is now a nursery manager and used to come to TechFest as a kid – and now she’s one of our presenters who helps us to be on the cutting edge.”
Sarah added: “Once again we have some of the brightest minds and biggest personalities in the Stem sphere presenting, as well as musicians and sporting personalities who can demonstrate how Stem plays a role in their disciplines too.
“A lot has changed since we first launched as a charity in 1995.
“However, our ethos of inspiring, educating and entertaining people of all ages has remained the same and we can’t wait to welcome everyone. None of this would be possible without the help we receive from our sponsors and supporters.”
TechFest 2018 will run from August 25 to September 22 at venues including Robert Gordon and Aberdeen Universities.
