In Town Without My Car Day has been cancelled over public safety concerns, Aberdeen City Council has announced.
The plug was pulled on the event, which was due to take place today in the city centre, due to “persistent gusting winds”.
A spokesman for Aberdeen City Council said: “Due to the content of the event, which includes inflatables, temporary demountable structures and activities at height, the persistent gusting winds are hampering safe installation of the activities across the event site prior to opening at 10am.
“This decision has been arrived at following the ongoing review of weather forecasts since 5am this morning, on site wind speed readings as per our wind management plan and safe site build under CDM 2015 regulations.
“We apologise for any inconvenience caused, and look forward to hosting the event in Aberdeen city centre in 2019.”
Union Street, Belmont Street, Gaelic Lane and Little Belmont Street were due to be closed to traffic in order to host activities such as a zip wire, bootcamp, face painting and a bungee run.
