A NEW £26,000 outdoor play area is set to open this weekend following a nine-month delay.
Inchgarth Community Centre in Garthdee has spent the five-figure sum creating the new space behind its building on Aboyne Place.
The play area was initially expected to open last August and a start was made on installing equipment.
But work was delayed when bosses were told they would need planning consent.
Now a family fun day and picnic is being held on Sunday to mark the official opening of the area.
The new space includes swing ball, pedal go-karts, outdoor pool tables, swings and giant Jenga.
Inchgarth Community Centre chairman Paul O’Connor said: “It’s going to be an amazing area for the kids to play in and it will attract kids from young to old.”
The play area received funding from the Big Lottery Fund, the John Gordon Trust and from the Khyber Pass Association.
The group also received donations from various oil companies and held fundraising events to bring in its own cash.
