An Aberdeen shop owner has thanked customers as they took the sad decision to shut down.
Independent sports store, The Running Shop, announced on social media this afternoon they would be closing down.
The owner of the George Street store said: “It’s with huge sadness that I’ve decided to close The Running Shop.
“Unfortunately, due to a lot of factors affecting Aberdeen and the retail sector at the moment, it’s just not been possible to keep going as an independent business.
“I want to thank everyone for your friendship and support, it really has been amazing. I have made so many great friends from this experience for which I am so grateful.
“I’ll continue to be out running in the hills and competing and hopefully hosting the odd ultra, so hopefully our paths will continue to cross for a long time to come.
“We’ll be clearing stock and will continue to trade, both in the shop and online over the forthcoming weeks.
“We’ll be dramatically reducing the prices, so please take the opportunity to grab a bargain.
“I would like to add that there is still a very good running shop in town who also do a lot in supporting the local running community. If you can continue to shop local and support the local economy that would be great.”
Regulars at the store have expressed sadness at the news.
One customer said: “Real shame. Always treated with first class customer service and great advice.
“Best of luck to Andrew and all the staff in there future endeavours.”
Another added: “Very sad times. I’ve done my very best to spend as much as I could in the shop.
“The number of shoe boxes I’ve hidden at work to avoid taking them home.
“You’ve provided a great service for Aberdeen and work hard over the last three years. It’s a big loss to all the running community.”
