Garthdee residents will not be charged for parking permits until 2025.

AROUND £50,000 in parking permit refunds could be issued by the city council, the Evening Express can reveal today.

Around 1,700 households in Garthdee have been sent letters by the local authority stating that they are entitled to a full refund if they have purchased a parking permit from August 1, 2013.

Aberdeen City Council had been in discussions with Robert Gordon University (RGU) over controlled parking zones (CPZ) in the Garthdee area.

Based on revenue already collected by the city council, it is expected around £50,000 could be paid out.

RGU has already committed to paying £25,000 a year in a new decade-long deal which spares residents being charged parking fees.
