A Dons fan today told of the moment he found out he had won a life-changing £140,000.
Stan Moir, from the Bridge of Don scored the windfall in a EuroMillions draw and celebrated the win at the home of his beloved Aberdeen FC.
The manufacturing specialist matched five numbers and one lucky star, netting him £140,245 from the May 4 draw.
Stan’s 16-year-old daughter Samantha was getting ready for her Evening Express paper round when he checked his ticket on the National Lottery app.
The 58-year-old said: “I was trying to figure out the amount as I thought I had won £14,000, but I looked again and saw it was £140,000.
“My legs started shaking, I got all nervous and I went to my daughter and asked her to check and confirm it.
“I went downstairs and put on the TV so I could check the numbers again, then the first thing I did was sign the ticket and put it somewhere safe.”
Stan, who bought his lucky ticket from Asda in Bridge of Don, went round to his brother’s to share the news later that
He added: “I gathered all the family into the living room and switched on the TV.
“My brother thought I was checking the football results, but they were results of a different kind.
“I got the winning numbers up on the screen and said to them ‘See that one person in the UK who has matched
5 numbers and one Lucky Star, he’s in the room here with you. That one person is me’. They were all so happy for me.”
Celebrating his win at Pittodrie yesterday, Stan said he was going to pay off his mortgage but his first purchase was going to be a season ticket for the Dons and the new strip.
“I’m going to pay off my mortgage and look into investing the rest of it and keep some of it for spending money and get something special for my daughter.
“It is fantastic to celebrate (at Pittodrie), I’ve been a supporter all my life and I’ve never been through the main doors or corridors at Pittodrie.
“I’ve had a wee tour round as well and that meant a lot to me,” he said.
