A man who stole £2,700 from a bakery safe – and lost the lot at a casino – has been ordered to pay the money back.
Daniel Rubruck stole the money from a safe at Greggs, where he was employed as a trainee supervisor.
The 39-year-old, who pled guilty to stealing a quantity of cash from the city centre shop when he appeared at Aberdeen Sheriff Court in January, went on to spend it in a casino.
Sentence was deferred for Rubruck to be of good behaviour and to address problems he had with alcohol.
Yesterday his solicitor Gail Goodfellow said he was back in full-time employment and would be able to start replaying the cash.
She added: “He has taken steps to address his alcohol problem.
“At the time of the offence he was suffering from fairly severe mental health issues and he’s only recently managed to get back into full-time employment.”
Sheriff Sukhwinder Gill ordered Rubruck, whose address was given as Marischal Street, Aberdeen, to pay back the full £2,700.
