Councillors have been urged to keep complaints about autumn leaves “to an absolute minimum”.
Councillor Martin Greig, who represents Hazlehead, Queen’s Cross and Countesswells, was sent the letter, addressed to all councillors by the authority, asking them not to report leaf-clearing issues unless it was a “safety concern”.
The letter goes on to say the council will focus on leaf-clearing for the remainder of the year.
It reads: “It is that time of year again when leaves are beginning to fall and covering our roads and pavements.
“I am aware that many of your constituents will be making contact with you to advise that their streets need cleared of leaves. Can I ask for your help here?
“It would be appreciated if you kept requests for leaf-clearing to an absolute minimum, only sending through requests/enquiries where you believe there to be a safety concern.”

In the past, city streets, particularly in the west end, have been covered in leaves during the autumn, which Cllr Greig says is a safety issue.
He said: “It is important to listen to the concerns of residents.
“Questions and issues about our public environment should be dealt with seriously. Leaves can gather into large bundles causing major tripping hazards.
“When the leaves get wet they can be slippy and create risks for pedestrians.
“It is important to encourage reporting of safety incidents such as this. Complaints have to be recorded to make the local environment as safe and clean as possible.”
A spokesman for Aberdeen City Council said: “We take leaf-clearing very seriously and as always at this time it is our priority to ensure that our streets are leaf-free by the end of the year.
“As in previous years, the team has brought in additional mechanical sweepers to help with the leaf-clearing programme.”
Douglas Lumsden, the co-leader of Aberdeen City Council, said: “As you can see, the officer sets out the steps taken by the council and the response you have received by Councillor Greig is utter nonsense.
“He is misrepresenting the officers. He should be supporting our hard-working staff instead of constantly undermining their efforts.”
