NEW suggestions are to be put forward to increase the safety on a busy Aberdeen bridge.
Aberdeen City Council is to look at new measures to address safety concerns on Union Bridge.
It comes after councillors previously rejected different measures which involved a safety barrier, in the form of a stainless steel parapet, at the granite structure overlooking the Denburn Road.
They were turned down despite having the support of Police Scotland, local mental health charities, Historic Scotland and ScotRail.
It’s now thought new measures will come to the city’s planning development management committee and a decision will be made by councillors.
The 130ft bridge, spanning the Denburn Valley, dates back to 1801 and is the largest single-span granite arch in the world.
