An Aberdeen bar that part-distills its own gin has been named the best in the country.
Orchid Bar, on Langstane Place in Aberdeen, has been acknowledged for its top tipples at the SLTN (Scottish Licensed Trade News) Awards.
The team took home the Cocktail Bar of the Year award, which was presented to them by comedian Jimmy Carr.
Nick Gordon, general manager for Orchid Bar, said: “This was our sixth year being nominated after applying to enter every year. It was pretty good to have our name called out and receive the award from Jimmy Carr, who was the master of ceremonies. I shook his hand and he made fun of my moustache.
“He made the night really fun – it was great.”
The 35-year-old, of Hatton of Fintray, said that the Orchid team is made up of hardworking staff who are pushing the boundaries in the Aberdeen bar scene.
He added: “I have been working with Orchid for the last two years and it has a really great staff of bartenders. Our bartenders have been in some of the greatest bars in the UK and I think if you work hard and put in the time, you will do well.
“Aberdeen has a really good bar scene and is pushing the boundaries. Our own bar experiments a lot with the different types of cocktails we make.
“For us to even get a national recognition is really great.”
Orchid opened in 2009 and has been a previous winner of the SLTN Awards in 2012. The bar has enjoyed great success with Porter’s Gin which it part-distills on its premises.
The bar was up against contenders The Adamson in St Andrews, The Finnieston in Glasgow and Tonic Bar in Edinburgh.
The SLTN Awards celebrate the top talents of the Scottish trade and featured more than 20 winners from across Scotland.
