More than 230,000 people have visited the Aquatics centre this year.

A STATE-OF-THE-ART sports facility is set to celebrate its first birthday.

A total of 230,000 people have passed through the doors of Aberdeen Sports Village Aquatics Centre since it opened last year – and that’s not including excited spectators who watched a number of sporting events.

In its first year alone the centre has gained 6,000 memberships.

And on Tuesday, the facility will reach its one year milestone and to mark the occasion, the facility is opening its doors on Monday and inviting folk around the North-east to join them and celebrate with a family fun day.

Monday’s family fun day will see a range of activities and entertainment for all ages.

Kids rock band Sharky Sharks, will be playing at the poolside throughout family swim sessions, giving away demo CDs and posing for photographs.

Asvil, the Aberdeen Sports Village mascot, will also be out and about posing for the camera as well.

Kids face painting, parents nail-polishing, special sportswear offers and exclusive membership deals will all be available on the day.

Adults and kids will even be given the chance to participate in the Evening Express’ Charlie’s Challenge – a football shooting skills exercise in which the target is a blow-up goal of the EE’s sports editor Charlie Allan.
