A MAN was today seriously injured after his car burst into flames following a crash with a lorry on a major North-east road.
The incident happened around 8.45am on the A90 Aberdeen to Dundee road at the Marykirk junction near Laurencekirk.
Both southbound lanes were closed and diversions put in place via the A937 Laurencekirk to Montrose road.
The crash involved a silver Mazda 3 car and a Volvo Morrisons lorry.
Fire crews were also called to the incident after the car went on fire.
The man was taken to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee but the lorry driver was unhurt
Three appliances were called out from Brechin, Inverbervie and Laurencekirk.
A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman added: “We had to extinguish the fire but never had to cut anyone free from the vehicles.”
A Police Scotland spokesman said northbound traffic was not affected by the crash.
Officers advised motorists to avoid the area.
