Work to clean one of Aberdeen’s most historic monuments has finished.
Aberdeen City Council brought in contractors to professionally clean Mercat Cross on the Castlegate.
Due to the fragile nature of the 17th-century monument, this required the use of only a soft-haired brush and running water to remove bird droppings, mould growth and grime from the surface.
In order to preserve the stonework, the use of cleaning agents were not permitted, nor any scrubbing of the structure or power washing.
The local authority confirmed the work was completed yesterday.
