When it comes to being in the winning spotlight in the Evening Express Retailer Awards, Des Cheyne has it in the bag.
The owner of The Spotty Bag Shop in Banff won Store Manager of the Year in 2016, then scooped the prestigious Outstanding Contribution to Retail accolade at last year’s awards.
Des said: “It was a huge honour for me personally and a great reward for my hardworking staff.
“This type of recognition filters through and has a positive effect on every aspect of the business and customer service.”
Despite the poor trading conditions affecting all of the high street, The Spotty Bag Shop continues to welcome customers from near and far.
Des added: “While our brand recognition was already strong before winning the award, we are sure that being awarded the Outstanding Contribution to Retail has brought us to the attention of new customers.
“Awards like this always widen your audience as well as positively reinforce your existing customer base that they are shopping with the best in the region.
“We have entered the Evening Express Retailer Awards for the past few years now and have always had a great result.
“It is really a fantastic event and also celebrates the range, scale and imp-ortance of independent retailers on today’s high street.”
For The Spotty Bag Shop, excellent customer service means exceeding customer expectations on a daily basis.
The shop’s team works hard to provide its customers with more than just a product at a great price, but they also hope to offer them a fantastic shopping experience.
Des added: “We are now a four-star VisitScotland tourist attraction.
“That demonstrates the level of care that we put into our customer-service training.”
Warmer months are usually very busy for Des and his team.
He said: “We will be making shopping fun for all the family with our mascot, Spencer, who will be out and about instore over the holidays.”
Described by customers as an Aladdin’s Cave of goodies, the store offers clothing, toys, luggage, footwear, bowling equipment, homeware, beauty and so much more.
The Spotty Bag Shop underwent a £1.9 million expansion, moving the restaurant and coffee shop upstairs, and extending the retail area.
