When Leonie and Rod Kirk moved into Mill-Lade Cottages having a family was the furthest thing from their mind.
Fast forward 12 years and the Kirk family has expanded by two, with five-year-old Sophie and three-year-old Ruaridh.
Both Leonie, 39, a technician, and Rod, 45, an engineer, knew the three-bedroom home was the one for them as soon as they walked through the door.
They won’t be going too far from Wester Blair but are reluctant to leave behind the house’s quirks that made them fall in love with the place.
“We are very sad to go because we feel there’s no other house quite like this one,” said Leonie.
“We knew as soon as we viewed this place that we wanted to move in, it’s the best of both worlds.
“We both lived and worked in the city centre but now we love leaving Aberdeen behind and coming home to the countryside.
“It’s a fantastic compromise, the house just has quirkiness to it which is rare these days because lots of properties look the same.”
The family’s favourite room is the spacious lounge which has a multi-fuel stove and dining area.
“There’s been many a night spent curled up in the lounge with a glass of wine, we’re so glad we put the stove in,” said Leonie.
“It makes the room incredibly cosy which is brilliant during winter.”
Whether you’re sitting down to a family dinner or entertaining guests, the kitchen is a versatile space and provides access to the garden. Both Sophie and Ruaridh have loved the garden with its beautiful countryside views.
“They love watching the farmer ploughing the fields and we’ve been very lucky with our neighbours,” said Leonie.
“It’s just a lovely community here.”
