Mid-week dinner dilemmas will soon be a thing of the past thanks to your new food saviour Meet the Meat. The butchers and fine foods specialist in Cove, Aberdeen, offers deals and services set to revolutionise the way you shop, cook and eat.
First up is the shop itself, which aimed to put a modern spin on a traditional local butchers and fine food store when opening in November 2018.
“We’re all about the quality, freshness and variety you get from a butcher in a convenient manner,” says Ian King, director of Meet the Meat.
“We have an 18ft butcher counter filled with traditional cuts and our own products, like melt-in-the-middle meatballs. We’ve also got plenty of grab fridges full of complete meal solutions and deals, and it’s everything from pies to easy-cook, pre-prepared protein dishes, as well as all the sides to go with them.”
It’s a new, less stressful way of shopping. No more traipsing up and down supermarket aisles trying to plan meals, simply pop in to the modern shop on Charleston Road. You’ll find all the bits and pieces you need to put together a delicious meal, from the meat itself right through to quality condiments, snacks and accompaniments like fresh noodles and pasta.
The next step
Now their new service, aptly named Meet the Meals, makes creating a fresh, tasty and healthy dinner even easier.
Every week a new menu is released with three different dishes, from steak nights to curries and stir-fries. Choose whether you want to feed one, two, three or four, and you’ll be given all the ingredients you need to make each dish.
“All meal packs come with easy-to-follow recipe cards that even novice cooks can follow – some require a bit of cooking but one fairly simple meal is the chicken skewer with vegetables that you can just shove straight in the oven,” says Ian.
As well as fool-proof, the new Meet the Meals service is cost-effective (you’ll only pay for exactly what you need) and low waste (you’ll be given precise ingredients to make each meal and won’t end up throwing away unused veg or sides).
To begin with during their current 4-6 week trial period you’ll order online before midnight on Sunday and then pick up your meals in store from 2pm Monday afternoon, but home delivery will be available in the near future.
It’s great news if you happen to live a little further afield and will save local customers even more time – one of the key reasons Ian started Meet the Meals.
“People don’t have time to plan meals’, Ian explains, referencing that all too common dilemma of coming home from work to try and figure out a meal the whole family will eat. “Our meal kit service is cost-effective, time-effective and low waste.”
Keeping it fresh
And you don’t have to worry about repeating the same meals over and over.
“We have lots of great products to transfer into meals,” says Ian. “I’m a big foodie so I’ve come up with a few ideas, as have the guys who work here. And we always work on a trial basis, asking friends and family to try meals and then working to feedback.”
The team’s passion for great food means there are plenty of options to suit all tastes, with dishes available including the likes of Sausage Casserole, Bolognese Supreme and Chicken Korma. Plans for the future include bigger menus with maybe 4-5 meals per week and lower carb/higher protein options.
Plus, unlike other ready-to-cook meal services working on a bigger scale, there’s plenty of flexibility.
Weekly Meet the Meals menus state any allergens so if you happen to be gluten-free, for example, then all you need to do is leave a note in the comment box when placing your online order and Meet the Meat will make any necessary swaps for you. With all ingredients being sourced from their butcher counter and the trusted local suppliers and businesses they already carry in-store, there’s no problem with traceability, freshness or adjustments to meals.
A three-meal set menu costs £16 to feed one, £26 to feed two, £36 to feed three and £46 to feed four.
Special offers are currently available for a limited time only, full details of which are available on Meet the Meat’s online store.
