The munchy box is becoming a more and more popular choice with takeaway lovers and the Chinese munchy box is seen more on menus. But unlike many choices, one of Aberdeen’s newest takeaways is giving you the chance to make your very own munchy box.
The Chinese Munchy Box in the city’s Portland Street, doesn’t just offer a full menu of great Chinese favourites, it also gives you the chance to pick and mix to make up your own munchy box!
You can get any three items from their menu for just £8.80, four for £11.30 or five for £13.80 (there are a few exceptions – duck dishes, Singapore noodles and the special platter can’t be part of a munchy box). It’s a great way to enjoy lots of your favourites without having to buy full dishes!
But if you want to try something a bit different and aren’t sure what to go for, here’s some options (all available on the menu) for you to give a go:
- Mongolian beef – In China, stir-frying meat with spring onions is common and this dish is a great example of traditional Chinese food with a twist. The addition of fresh chilli brings a kick and the soy sauce adds an umami taste.
- Kung Po chicken – Pretty much a takeaway staple, but many don’t know what Kung Po chicken actually is! The chicken is lightly battered and deep fried, before being blended with a spicy, sweet and sour sauce that also has garlic, fresh chilli, water chestnuts and spring onions. It combines a lot of great flavours and would offer a bit of everything.
- Szechuan prawns – The Chinese use prawns in a lot of their takeaway dishes and Szechuan style offers a great way to enjoy them. The prawns are stir-fried with chopped hot chillies, garlic and onion, before being mixed in a spicy bean sauce to finish it off. It’s a very hot dish, but great if you enjoy chillies!
- Sweet and sour chicken Hong Kong style – Instead of the usual battered chicken balls, Hong Kong style is pieces of chicken deep-fried and mixed in a sweet and sour sauce with peppers, pineapple and onions. It’s not quite as dense as the usual style, but equally as tasty.
No matter what you pick, old favourites or something new, you can combine your dishes with rice, chips, spring rolls or spare ribs and enjoy a Chinese feast!
The Chinese Munchy Box is open from 4.30pm seven days a week, with a delivery service also available. You can call 01224 580449 to book your delivery.
