Nepalese cuisine has fast become a popular choice for diners as more and more restaurants offering this style of cooking are opening. There may be around 400 Nepalese restaurants in the UK, but there is a very special one worth visiting in Aberdeen, The Himalayas Restaurant in Peterculter.
Run by an experienced Nepalese team, the new restaurant in North Deeside Road was inaugurated by the Lord Provost of Aberdeen City Council in January this year. Since then it has brought its Himalayan spices and a Nepalese ambience to Aberdeen and shire.
As well as the usual Indian dishes, The Himalayas Restaurant serves Nepalese menu so diners can experience the distinctive flavours of food from Nepal. The menus are as diverse as the country itself and include favourites like Chicken Chhoila, Nepali Thali, Chicken Sizzler and Himalayan Chicken, as well as a fusion of Indian and Chinese cuisine in its Indo-Chinese options.
One of Nepal’s most popular dishes is Momo (Nepali chicken dumplings) and it is fast becoming a favourite in Peterculter too!
Head Chef Naresh Bhandari said: “As we are from Nepal, we wanted to include some of our finest and most popular dishes in the menu so that the people from Peterculter and surrounding areas could taste the flavours.
“The other reason we opened our restaurant in Peterculter is that a lot of people from this area have visited Nepal on a number of occasions. It is with pride we serve authentic Nepalese cuisine to the people of Peterculter and Aberdeen and shire so that we can bridge the locals from here to the people of Nepal and introduce them to the diverse culture we have.
“Most importantly, we use the locally and nationally sourced meat, fish, vegetables and other ingredients when and where available. I think this is our duty to support local producers.”
Besides the highest quality cuisine, it’s the atmosphere; cleanliness and outstanding service at The Himalayas Restaurant that keep bringing customers back time and time again. Here’s what the diners are saying: “Lovely little restaurant with great food, Nepalese options for something different, and friendly staff. Well worth a visit!”
“Delicious, fresh and still hot! We opted for a couple old favourite and were not disappointed. Naan bread and rice also divine.”
“Lovely restaurant with a great atmosphere, I had the Moonlight Chicken and it was superb. Highly recommended.”
Also, The Himalayas Restaurant is backed by a very experienced team of high skilled and trained chefs and front of house team. Together they built up years of experience and are qualified in hospitality from Nepal to Dubai to London, and now in Aberdeen.
