From chickens in the garden to growing her own fruit and veg, Karen Petric has truly lived the good life at Piketillum near Oldmeldrum, Inverurie.
The 50-year-old project manager has spent eight years transforming the beautiful three-bedroom home into a charming rural retreat and is now planning to start a fresh chapter with her partner Ian in Dundee.
Karen originally bought Piketillum with her husband Zeljuo, who sadly passed away – but the pair made lots of happy memories in the home.
The house has had two extensions added and Karen has transformed the one-acre garden.
“I always said that my husband did the house and I did the garden, we actually loved doing the renovations,” said Karen.
“The house needed so much work doing to it but we didn’t mind, we loved coming here after working and getting busy.
“We knew the house had potential. The thing I love about it the most is the fact that I’m not too far away from anything but I still feel like I’m living rurally. Dyce is only a 20-minute drive away.
“You could say we lived the good life here, I love gardening so we grew our own fruit and vegetables.
“At one point we even used to take in orphaned lambs. If I could pick the house up and move it I would, but at the same time it feels good to be starting afresh.”
Piketillum is deceptively spacious and you enter the property via the lovely sun room which has exposed beams. Head through to the beautiful kitchen and you’ll find plenty of room for dining furniture so you can chat to guests as you cook, while the spacious lounge is great for unwinding and is particularly cosy in the winter months thanks to the wood-burning stove. Outside, a large log cabin will make for the perfect summer house or an excellent workshop.
“A lot of love and effort has been poured into Piketillum and I hope someone can come and take up the reins,” said Karen.
“It’s been a wonderful eight years.”
