Living on Aberdeen’s Granite Mile certainly has it advantages in terms of having everything on the doorstep.
And for all the benefits that go with city living, this third-floor flat – entered via Thistle Lane – comes with the added bonus … it is so very quiet.
At home in the quirky and cute apartment are owners Isla and Gavin Abel who have lived there for the past five years.
Isla 30, a bio-medical scientist at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, said: “Gavin and I rented it initially.
“When the landlord expressed a desire to sell up, we did not hesitate to buy the flat because we had lived in it by then for two years, and we just really loved it so much.”
The property boasts an elegantly proportioned lounge, a fully fitted kitchen with a large built-in cupboard and excellent sized double bedroom with wall to wall built-in wardrobe with further storage above.
A white, three-piece bathroom with shower over bath completes the layout.
Isla and Gavin, 27, a corrosion engineer with CAN Offshore, knew they were on to a winner when they bought the flat.
Isla said: “The fact it had so much storage space was also very appealing to us, and it really has been the perfect starter home for us.”
The living room is Isla’s favourite room, and she is particularly pleased with the hatch in the kitchen.
“Its been a great addition when we have friends around,” added Isla. “When I am prepping in the kitchen I can still be part of the conversation going on in the living room.”
Since tying the knot last August, Isla and Gavin are keen to take the next step up on the property ladder.
And they dream of settling down in a family home in Newtonhill, where Isla spent a great deal of her formative years while visiting her grandparents.
“No matter where we end up in life, this flat will forever remain dear,” added Isla. “It’s been great!”
