It can be difficult to imagine living in a house when it’s only half-built but Gary and Michelle Wade had a good feeling about 2 Ythsie Park in Tarves.
The five-bedroom property was little more than a shell when the pair first viewed it but the quiet location and country views really swung it for them.
“We’ve been here seven years now,” said Gary, 54.
“We were living in Daviot previously and happened to cut through Tarves one day and saw the house being built.
“There are only four houses on the street so it’s lovely and quiet.
“We stopped by one day to take a look and although the house was just a shell it had a wonderful feeling to it somehow.
“At the time we knew we wanted to move but didn’t know what we wanted so when we saw this house it was just perfect as we could put our own stamp on things immediately.”
Bank manager Gary and his wife Michelle, 60, instantly got stuck into designing their dream home.
Buying so early on in the build meant they were granted influence over the internal layout as well as full control of all the fixtures and fittings.
“Since moving in we’ve really not needed to make any changes,” Gary said.
“Getting to make our own mark right at the beginning was fantastic and we’ve just loved living here.
“My favourite room is the lounge, which has huge windows and views over nearby fields.
“Seeing the sunrise here is amazing and there are always deer and foxes running about.
“The kitchen is great if you like cooking, too, and there is so much room to have the whole family round for dinner.”
Gary and Michelle share the property with their son Tom, 19, and Cockapoo Millie.
“Our daughter has moved out and we have a little grandson in Aberdeen now,” said Gary.
“We love when they come to stay but when they’re not here the house feels a bit too big for us.
“So we’ve decided to downsize somewhere a bit closer to the city. That way we can be nearer to our grandson and see him more often, too.
“We’re sad to leave Tarves and the house but we’ve really loved living here and I’m sure the next owners will, too.”
