Tired of the hustle and bustle of city life, a sense of tranquillity was the only requirement for John and Patricia Bain when they began house hunting.
The village of Longside near Peterhead fitted the bill perfectly, though it was just by chance that the pair ever came to know about it.
“I was working as an area manager for a brewery firm at the time,” said John, 70.
“It so happened that I was driving through Longside between jobs and saw some new houses for sale.
“I also spotted that they were just a few minutes’ walk to the first tee of a nearby golf course, and as a golf player myself, that’s what really swung it for me!”
The Bains were struck by the peace and quiet of the area and have enjoyed 17 years at Misty Haven, 1 Skinner Road.
“It’s just a totally different pace of life compared with the city,” John said.
With three bedrooms and two reception rooms, it’s easy to see why John and Patricia, 69, have enjoyed Misty Haven.
The bungalow is set on a large corner plot and has been exceptionally well maintained throughout.
The heart of the home is the fabulous kitchen, which has been fitted with high-gloss units and contrasting wooden worktops.
This leads through to a stylish dining area, offering a great spot for entertaining guests. When John isn’t relaxing in the lounge he likes to keep the garden well-tended.
He said: “I like to keep the garden tidy whereas Patricia’s got a particular flair for interiors.
“She has excellent taste and we have always taken care to keep the house up to date.”
With the couple now both retired, they are looking to move closer to their daughter in Insch to help out on her steading.
“It’s quite sad for us to be leaving Longside,” said John.
“But we are looking forward to putting our stamp on a new place all over again.”
