Once part of an office building for the old Woodlands Hospital, this granite apartment proved to be just what the doctor ordered for the McNicolls.
Russell and his wife Valerie fell in love with the historic Deeside property – which has been transformed into four stunning apartments – when they saw it in 2008.
They were living in Texas for Russell’s work and it was the perfect base for when the couple were back visiting Aberdeen.
Now retired, Russell – who worked for oil and gas firm Baker Hughes – and Valerie loved the area so much they have moved into a new home just around the corner.
He said: “We originally owned a house in Bieldside, and decided to rent it out when we moved to Texas for my job.
“We bought the apartment in 2008 to use as a base when we visited Aberdeen and eventually moved in when we returned in 2011.
“We lived in the apartment for a few years and decided to rent it out three years ago when we bought our latest home in the same residential development just down the road.”
Originally from Glasgow, Russell moved to Aberdeen for work and met his wife of 28 years.
He added: “We wanted something that was easy to maintain and in the Cults area.
“The building is the original office building of the old Woodlands Hospital and we bought the apartment right after it had been converted. The building goes back to the early 1900s.”
The semi-rural area is perfectly suited for the 63-year-old who enjoys going for walks in the picturesque grounds which are well maintained.
He said: “The room sizes are great. They have big bay windows and high ceilings and the rooms are all very bright. It’s quite a quiet area too.”
The spacious bedrooms have built-in wardrobes and there are large cupboards providing ample storage space. Parking is plentiful with an allocated space and lots of visitor parking available.
He added: “We now live in a detached house with a garden in the same area.
“The local amenities are excellent and there’s plenty of different shops and boutiques in Cults now.
“The development boasts a woodland setting with quite a few paths and walks nearby. It’s also close to the Deeside Way for cycling and walking.”
