Review: Wagamama, Union Square, Aberdeen

One of the challenges of having a detox January is still being able to enjoy a meal out.

Which is where Wagamama comes into the mix. After all, it’s all fresh meat and veg plus noodles.

Healthy, clean eating.

We had the to-be-expected wait for a seat on a busy Saturday, but were soon tucking into a hearty lunch in this vibrant spot.

My yaki udon (£9.95) was a big hearty affair, full of chicken, prawns, egg and a tasty fishy thing the menu called chickuwa.

On the veg front beansprouts, leeks, mushrooms and leeks bulked out the dish which was dressed in a fiery chilli oil then dressed with ginger and sesame seeds. It was simply delicious.

So, too, was the pad thai (£10.75) in front of Mrs B – minus prawns as she’s no lover of seafood.

Again, it was a riot of flavours, with peanut, coriander and lime shining through.

A great midwinter pick me up at a fine price.
