Food review: Shamrock and thistle, Arbuthnott Place, Stonehaven

Shamrock and Thistle

Stonehaven is a town that always punches above its weight in quality attractions.

Now it can add Shamrock and Thistle to the list of cool places that are great for eating and relaxing.

Wooden beams, planters, brick walls and a friendly atmosphere make you want to just linger. So, too, does the lovingly crafted coffee and the divine crepes.

We had a Sunday brunch consisting of two savoury offerings, the Glamis Castle crepe and the Dunnottar Castle crepe (they come as waffles, too).

Both came with butterfly wing light crepes with a delightful texture and taste. The Glamis was stuffed with a meat feast of ham, salami, crumbly sharp feta and big juicy tomatoes.

The Dunnottar had a hearty filling of haggis, cheese and spinach. Who knew these three things could work so well together? Well the folk at Shamrock and Thistle, clearly.

Seek it out.
