Review: Pret a Manger, Union Street, Aberdeen

As we headed down Union Street to join the madness that is shopping on a Saturday, my daughter and I decided we needed a quick fuel stop first.

With neither of us hungry enough for a big lunch and not wanting to waste too much time eating, as we passed Pret A Manger it seemed the ideal solution.

It was very busy but we luckily found a seat.

The pair of us shared a Swedish meatball hot wrap (£4.25), macaroni cheese prosciuitto (£5.25) and large bottle of water. I had a tea and my daughter had a white Americano.

The soft wrap was a really tasty affair packed with fat and juicy British pork meatballs smothered in rich, tomatoey chipotle ketchup – which had a real zap of chilli heat – topped with red onions and melting Greve cheese.

It was lipsmackingly good.

The macaroni was another flavour-packed dish. The small square cardboard tray was filled with soft tubetti rigati pasta in a really cheesy mature Cheddar béchamel sauce which contained delicate cauliflower florets and was topped with big pieces of grilled Italian prosciutto.

It was really yummy … our only disappointment was that we’d only ordered one to share!
